First cover all surfaces that you don't want paint on it

using paper or drop clothes cover all floors and using painters plastic you can cover any furniture you may have on your room

Second patch all nail holes, cracks, imperfections

Using compound and tools patch all holes cracks and imperfections on all surfaces to be painted

Third Send as much as needed don't over sand the patches and Prime

All areas that was patched needs to be sended well and prime even if you're using the "self primer paint" it will avoid future peeling and flash on the new surface

Fourth paint all your ceilings and trims first

Paint all your trim work and ceiling first so you will give it some time to dry well and then if you need to tape it later its dry enough to hold with the tape, try to do the line without a tape
Material needed

use good rollers for better results

And finally apply primer if needed then roller your favorite color on wall

After all final sanding Now using a good roller Apply the finish color being careful not to leave drips behind
